Assault Rifle Guide: Your First 100 Kills
The assault rifle is the weapon you spawn with in FRAGBYTE — full-auto, reliable, and the gun you will fire more than all the others combined. Most players treat it as a placeholder until they find something better. That is a mistake. A mastered rifle clears waves 1 through 5 faster and safer than anything else in the early game.
The basics
- Slot: 1 (press 1 to switch back to it instantly)
- Fire mode: Full-auto, hitscan
- Sight: Red-dot reflex — right-click to aim down sights (ADS) for tighter spread
- Role: Mid-range workhorse, best against stickman soldiers and blade runners
Three habits that matter
1. ADS every engagement past 15 meters
Hip-fire spread will waste half your magazine at range. Right-click to ADS before you start firing, not during. The red dot settles fast, and your time-to-kill roughly doubles against soldiers at mid range.
2. Burst, don't hose
Hold the trigger and the recoil walks your shots over the enemy's head. Fire in 4–6 round bursts, re-acquire, burst again. Against shield brutes this discipline is the difference between breaking the shield and tickling it.
3. Keep moving — slide between reloads
FRAGBYTE rewards momentum. Ctrl/C to crouch-slide while your rifle reloads and you become a much harder target for laser snipers. Never stand still in the open during a reload; slide to cover, come up firing.
When to put it down
The rifle falls off when the arena gets crowded. Against packed waves, the pump shotgun (slot 2) clears space faster up close. Against laser snipers at long range, the marksman sniper (slot 3) wins every duel. And when everything goes wrong, G throws an ink grenade — your panic button.
The 100-kill drill
Load up wave 1 and set yourself a rule: rifle only, no grenades, ADS every kill. If you can clear the first three waves this way without dropping below half health, your fundamentals are solid — and every other weapon in the game gets easier from there.
